Staff/ Student Fundraising Events UoB
University of Beds
My Story
This year, Keech Hospice Care is celebrating its 30-year anniversary of caring for children and adults with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. As a way of saying thank you to the community and raise support for this amazing charity they have created a fantastic public art event called ‘The Big Trunk Trail’. At least 30 stunning designed giant elephants, along with baby ones, will trumpet along a free, family-friendly art trail around Luton’s key landmarks (including the University), bringing together the community for the biggest and most unique outdoor public art event.
To support the fundraising aims of the Big Trunk Trail, the UoB community of students, staff and children have joined the herd! As the educational sponsor we will be working closely with Big Trunk Trail to develop our relationships with key outreach schools by leading on and developing events with schools and third party community organisations such as The Level Trust. We have series of exciting events planned for the summer which also include a 2-week Safari themed summer school for children living in poverty in town.
Part of this project will include the sponsorship of our very own giant adult elephant who is called ‘Arty’ and who will be part of the ‘Wild in Art’ trail. We are currently working with an exciting local artist Amy Bourbon and will be following her amazing design as it develops.
We have also purchased a baby elephant called ‘Bedz’ who is now officially part of our University community. ‘Bedz’ design theme will be based on our new developing strategy of ‘Transformation’ and she will be popping up all around the University supporting our events.
We really welcome the opportunity for us as an educational community to come together and be part of the fundraising team for Keech, and we have set ourselves the target to raise £1,000 by the time the trail ends in September. We need everyone’s help, students and staff to reach this target. If you would like to donate for it would be fantastic from £1 to £100, every penny makes a difference to the amazing work of this charity.
As you are joined the herd we hope to maximise your involvement, engagement and legacy and we welcome your all your fundraising ideas. This could be in staff team, student course, individually or it could be from organising you own events internal or external to the University, we would love to hear your ideas and how you can become a leader in our herd!
